The referendum carried with more than 87 percent of the vote.
'The citizens of Solebury have given us a clear direction to continue our preservation efforts," said Township Supervisor Ruth Ann Wilson. 'Our residents have shown us they are overwhelmingly supportive o the program and want it to continue."
The $18 million bond issue will help pay for the township's efforts to permanently preserve its historic and natural lands. For every dollar Solebury residents commit through bond issues, the township leverages two dollars in additional grants and aid.
With the new funding, Solebury is well on its way to meeting its goal of preserving about half of its total acreage. Solebury's 4,802 acres of preserved land - about a quarter of the township - is likely the most land preserved by any municipality in Pennsylvania . But more than 3,500 acres still stand unprotected and vulnerable to the intense development pressures of the region.
