The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. was approved for a $144,200 grant this week to plan the marketing of Philadelphia's historic district, Pennsylvania state Rep. Dwight Evans, D-Phila., announced Tuesday.

The First Industries Tourism Planning Grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

"The grant money will be used for a marketing plan and qualitative research," Evans said. "The goal is the development of a unified marketing effort that includes the broad range of attractions Philadelphia has to offer."

Development of the plan, which intends to connect marketing for historic sites, museums, galleries, restaurants and retail shops, is expected to take up to 12 months.

Established in March, the CFA was given the task of developing guidelines and bylaws and issuing bonds for eight of the 19 programs that span the governor's $2.3 billion economic stimulus program effort.
